For those of you who either have high-bandwidth Internet connections or a lot of time to burn, the following link will download a QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR) file of the beautiful area in which we live, Kaneohe Bay. We shot this 360-degree image as a series of
fourteen (14) high-resolution (1536 X 1024) digital photos using our in-house Kodak DC-260 digital camera. Your browser will need the Apple QuickTime plug-in, which can be downloaded at no charge from
www.apple.com/quicktime . |

The location is the "sand bar" in Kaneohe Bay -- a little-known phenomenon where sand has been deposited over millions of years approximately two miles offshore. When we first visited this area, we were astonished to see dozens of people evidently walking on water far from the beaches. After we checked out this "holy" area a bit more closely, we found that even at high-tide, the sand was less than a foot below the surface of the ocean, and at bi-weekly low tides, we barely got our feet wet.
To take the series of digital photos, we used a Bogen tripod with their special QTVR head that mounts the digital camera precisely over the center of the film-plane. The photos were assembled and "stitched" using
VR Toolbox's VR Worx software after (http://www.vrtoolbox.com )
changing the color palette to "Web-safe" using DeBabelizer Pro
(http://www.equilibrium.com).
Pan the scene by clicking and dragging the mouse, or use the arrow keys to navigate (pan and tilt). Zoom in and out with the keyboard, using the shift key (zoom in) and control key (zoom out).
Hope you enjoy CATI's little piece of paradise. Aloha nui loa!!
